Nocatee Farmer's Market

Once a month Nocatee has a farmer's market. Lots of fresh locally grown produce and a lot of crafts and arts.

These strawberries were a ripe and fresh as any I've had in a long time.

Signs of Spring/Signs of Autumn

Here in North Florida we often get overlapping seasonal signs. The top picture is a big live oak near the Intracoastal Waterway on our land. It is flushed out with Spring growth.

The picture below is of the last leaves on a swamp maple or sweet gum, I'm not sure which. Both trees hold onto their red Autumn leaves until new growth starts. The overlap is nice because there isn't much Winter in between.

Palm, winter light, Nocatee

Winter light down here is very warm, late in the day. I got this just 45 minutes before sunset.

Ginkgo leaves,trug, garden, Roscoe

I have a big, red, plastic garden trug that I use to carry yard waste around to various compost piles or the road, where it is picked up on a weekly basis and recycled. After the Autumn cleanup it sat in the back and slowly collected rainwater. Then the leaves started falling. So, I got lucky.

Rooflines, New build, Jax Beach

I have been watching this house get built for months. When I stop at a red light I am right here. I have been fascinated by the myriad rooves and their drain angles. We have tropical rains here. From what I can surmise, if we have a frog-strangler of a rain ,almost all of the water will end up coming down on the last roof over the front door and should go into the downspout to the left. I don't think it has the capacity to drain the whole roof. It will keep my curious little brain working until our next storm.

Cowbirds, Nocatee

The black males are in the higher branches. These are a breed that has really adapted to humans. They are in every grocery parking lot, actually, only Publix, hmmmmmm. They look for any dropped food. Terrible crys but very bold.

Palm frond, Guana Dam

Went down to walk in Guana Dam, a nature preserve in South Ponte Vedra Beach. Lovely trails with many different habitats. It was cold for here, 40f/4.4C. A nice breeze and lots of sun.

What a fun family.

Immature Ibises, Jax Beach

These are white ibises in their immature plumage. This flocklet was very tame and barely cleared a way when I came lumbering. I see this every year with ibises, the young form their own flock once they have figured out how to feed themselves. It's sort of like going through your whole life with your third grade class.

Tulip tree, Millbrae

We were back in Millbrae last week to visit family. The tulip trees were in their full glory. More Millbrae pictures soon.
