Apt
Apt is the large market town at the bottom of the hill upon which Saignon perches. The first time we went there, many trips ago, we thought it was a little bit seedy and not very interesting. Thank God we went back, and back, and back. They have the best market day (Sat.) of any town within 50 miles. The secret of enjoying the market is to go early, secure a parking spot, and go in while the people are setting up their stalls. You can make decisions without being jostled by the immense crowds that gather by 10:30, just as we leave. We get there at about 8:45 and are back home by 10:45.
This is the entrance to town on the East side, on a non market day. We have found the town full of interesting shop, more accessible on non market days, and a handful of neat little restaurants, from a lovely creperie to the wonderfully named Pizzeria O'Grille, apparently a French/Irish pizza joint, that makes one of the two best pizzas in the Luberon we know. Very thin crust , lovely tomato sauce and great topping choices. Plus they have a bottle of olive oil full of dried red peppers that could liven up warm tofu.
