Palm trunk, Roscoe

We have had a run of Carl Weese days. Low contrast, gray light. This brings out the subtle colors as opposed to our usual bright sunlight.

Fall color, Florida style.

It's not a sugar maple forest, but we make do.

Palm, winter light, Nocatee

Winter light down here is very warm, late in the day. I got this just 45 minutes before sunset.

Palm frond, Guana Dam

Went down to walk in Guana Dam, a nature preserve in South Ponte Vedra Beach. Lovely trails with many different habitats. It was cold for here, 40f/4.4C. A nice breeze and lots of sun.

Palm frond, Beach Blvd. Bridge, Jax Beach

I have recently downloaded Tonality, a Photoshop filter from MacPhun software, and am starting to play with it. It converts color files to black and white and allows all of the darkroom techniques to be incorporated into that file. I converted this from color to Agfapan 100 and then applied a split-tone filter. It looks like split tones I used to do in the darkroom. It's a great filter..highly recommended.

Reed grass and dead palm, Roscoe extension.

I think that every photographer, and especially gear heads like me, have a place they go simply to test equipment. I come here to see how a new lens and/or camera do in separating detail. Reed grass grows all over itself and ranges from dark green to very light grey. It will reveal any loss of acuity in a lens. This was taken with my new Sony RX 100 III with a Zeiss lens. I was using a monopod on a grey day. At 100% on my big screen it held up wonderfully. amazing. It is a tiny camera that I can carry in a belt pouch, with a great lens.

Palms, Nocatee

This is in one of the last developments in Nocatee that has not restarted after the recession.

Palm frond, Jax Beach

This picture created an optical illusion that drove me crazy. The way the lines run makes the picture look less than square. I even went back into Photoshop to try and correct it, but it's just my eyes and brain that see the narrowing.

Beach Bowl, Jax Beach

A tough tree is the cabbage palm. Look at all of the baby trees to the right of the tree. These are almost impossible to pull out physically and respond to weed killer as if it's a treat.

Sock monkey palm tree, Vilano Beach

Next year I'll make apoint of going down to Vilano during Christmas season. They had a palm trunk decorating contest this year. Most of the decorations were worse for wear. This one still worked.

Palm trunk, Roscoe

The light is still low and strong, so I take a lot of shadow pictures.
