Along with the usual urban graffiti, as seen in the above two posts, there are a lot of older equivalents. On the side of the cathedral there are little faces and carvings at the bottom of carved columns.I think the carver was just having fun, but I am equally sure they were meant to serve a purpose, like gargoyles.
