We started up the trail to the left side of the Falaise. The camera is inadequate for showing how steep this part of the climb was. The rocks and pebbles are very prone to slipping.
At about this point in the climb, a jet jockey from the French Air Force came over us at a very low altitude and on full afterburner. The cliff muffled his approach so that it was as if the earth had exploded when he went over us. Apparently the French allow their pilots to practice much closer to the ground than the U.S.A.F. A Mirage makes a LOT of noise!
